Public Announcement - 19th March - Mosque Temporarily Closed

Posted on: 19 March 2020

Further to the announcement of restricted opening times and stringent measures for the protection of our community, a further meeting was held with the local council, medical professionals and Mosques from the London Borough of Hounslow on Wednesday 18th March 2020.

Having taken into consideration official guidance, and with emphasis on the minimisation of social contact and avoidance of gatherings, we have taken the decision to close all activities at Hounslow Jamia Masjid effective from 9pm Thursday March 19th 2020.

This is a temporary suspension and is a precautionary measure to minimise the spread of the Coronavirus among the community.

What does this mean?

There will be no daily congregational prayers, and no Friday prayer. The Madrassah and other activities have already been closed as of Tuesday this week.

Should there be any deaths in this period, we will continue to perform the Ghusl, however the funeral prayer will be conducted at the graveyard. We will not be holding any gathering of condolences, however we are available to deliver food to your home for a minimum of 50 people. Please contact 07723 390133 in this case

At this moment in time it cannot be determined when the Mosque will reopen, we will continue to follow directives and will advise when it is safe to resume operations.

Hounslow Jamia Masjid is the largest Mosque in West London, and our doors have been open for nearly 30 years. This was indeed a difficult decision, but ultimately the safety and welfare of all those who visit, especially the more vulnerable, takes priority.

We hope all sections of our community appreciate the scale of the crisis we are now facing as a nation and the importance of playing our part in breaking the transmission of this virus.

In the period of the closure we will continue to deliver reminders on our Facebook page and will look to run the Seerah class via livestream. Those who have registered for upcoming classes will be informed on how these will be delivered. Please follow our page to receive these notifications @hounslowjamiamasjid.

Please continue to adhere to the hygiene advice of not touching your face without washing your hands regularly for 20 seconds. And please do take the religious and medical precautions. One of the Sunnah supplications for protections is most effective:

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

“I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of that which He has created.”

May Allah make things easy for all
