Statement from HJM Trust on the Article in the Sun Newspaper 16th Oct 2025
This statement is made for and on behalf of the Board of Trustees of Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre (The Trust).
The Trust is aware of the Article published in the Sun on 16 October 2025 which makes serious allegations regarding the management and use of charitable funds.
The Trust fully understands the concern and distress this article may have caused to the congregation, donors and wider community. Trust is the foundation of all charitable work, and this Trust takes it responsibilities with the utmost seriousness.
The Trust strongly refutes any suggestion of the intentional misuse or misappropriation of funds by the Trustees. All financial decisions have been made with the intention of furthering objectives of the Masjid and serving the community.
The Sun claims that the charity commission has opened a probe into a £1m misuse and corruption of funds , which is totally untrue. The charity commission has not communicated initiation of such an investigation.
However, the Trust also recognise the seriousness of the issues raised and the need of a thorough and transparent response. The Trust shall fully cooperate with any Charity Commission inquiry (and with other related agencies) and will continue to do so openly and constructively. The Trust welcomes their oversight and guidance.
The trust is currently taking legal advice both in relation to the Sun Newspaper and the
Ex Chairman Mr Majid and will endeavour to keep the congregation updated, as it is aware that this article is a result of a personal vendetta waged by a few individuals against some of the trustees. It is very unfortunate that these people have total disregard for the House of Allah or the image of the Muslim community.
The Trust remains fully committed to its mission – to serve the community, uphold the values of our faith and ensure that every donation is used in accordance with its intended purpose.
The Trust is confident that this process will reaffirm the integrity of our institution and thank you for the continued support, patience and prayers of the community during this challenging time.
